WE HEARD ROGER MILLER

Chuck, Nancy, Jim and I set out for an adventure last Saturday. Chuck rented a "mixto" which is a crew cab pick-up. Our objectives were Loja and Vilcabamba, roughly 5 and 6 hours away, respectively. We got a bit of a late start and so after about 1 1/2 hours we were ready for lunch. We came upon this welcome sight:

This was in high mountain countryside which looked like this.

Inside we were surprised to find that we had walked into the old west.

Everywhere we looked there were John Wayne posters, old advertisements (in English), saddles, cow horns, horse memorabilia and cowboy hats. (The patrons were also wearing cowboy hats).

The restaurant had a little bit of everything - second hand clothes, knick knacks, etc.

Even the furniture was even olde timey

We had another fun menu to ponder, mostly beef:

We had to wait a bit for our meal to come as there was a lunch rush going on. We had lots of fun magazines to keep us busy.

Another meal with multiple starches. At least this one didn't also have rice, which wouldn't be unusual. These potatoes were called "French Fries Country."

This is juice of tree tomato, a yummy flavor somewhere between tomato and orange juice. Very refreshing.
As we were eating, our experience was complete; Roger Miller started singing "King of the Road."

Many more stories soon.

Audrey
