ROAD TRIP TO RENO

This was a brutal week at work with all kinds of craziness from a ticking package which caused the evacuation of one of my clinics to the police arresting a patient in clinic for a felony committed at Walmart.  It truly seemed like a full moon week.  Jim sensed my stress level was over the top and suggested a weekend get away.  We left this morning with a vague notion of heading to Sacramento to nose around in the antique malls.

In the first one we went to we saw these amazing "masks" of stone.

When we walked into the store I saw the oriental carpet of my dreams - and it was reasonably priced.   I have been looking for at least 3 years for a RED (not burgundy) rug.  It is now in the back of our car!

After lunch we went to an antique mall in a different part of town (Citrus Heights) where we saw more mid century modern stuff all in one place than I had ever seen before.  They had whole kitchens! They had amazing boomerang tables!  They had poodles!  (This display also had a real poodle skirt which I failed to photograph).

Check out this cool display:

And this is a mid century modern dental chair.

We didn't buy anything in this store but sure had fun looking!

We weren't ready to settle in for the night after this store so we got in the car and headed east.

Highway 80 is a Blue Star Highway.

It is also a historical area due to the railroad,

and of course a more notorious event.

Up in the Sierra it is still very early Spring but there wasn't nearly as much snow as I had anticipated.

It's really a pretty road, following the Yuba River on the west side of the pass and the Truckee on the east side of the pass.

The scenery on the east side of the mountains is quite lovely and different.

Oops, I guess we are heading all the way to Reno after all.

On recommendation from a friend we are staying tonight at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.  It's not Las Vegas, but we also didn't have to walk 2 miles from the reception desk to our room (only 1!)  And, I started with $15 playing the penny slots and now have a $100 bill.  Of course I had more at one time but I was having too much fun playing to be sensible.

Tomorrow?  Who knows.
